#26 · created orderRaven · Messenger · Celestine’s route
- Apparent age
- 19–20
- Family
- Daughter of Matthew & Ari · First bird of the house · Mother of Rue
Morning routine
Dawn on a high sill — chapel roof if Celestine has something, kitchen chimney if she does not. She counts the house the way a raven counts silver: who is up, who is missing, which window is wrong. Then she comes down, folds the wings, and drinks tea she did not make. She will not be first to speak at breakfast. She will be the one who already knows whether Ashe slept and whether Ara has claimed a spoon.
Appearance
Black, and then more black that turns out to be feathers. Large raven wings — not cloak-wings; they fold, they shed, they take weather. Black hair, black eyes, pale skin. Dress and coat cut like something that has to work on a sill and a stair. Feathers at the cuffs, the collar, the hem. Quiet jewellery if any: a dark clasp, nothing that rings. She does not sparkle. She catches light and gives it back dull, which is a kind of honesty. Across her back, more often unstrung than drawn: living wood, dark, slightly twisted, cherry blossom along both limbs. The feathers hide the curve. People notice the flowers first. That is the point.
Personality
Curious but patient. She will watch a room until the room tells on itself. She asks one good question and then waits, which unnerves people who are used to filling silence. She does not hoard. She carries. That is the whole job, and she likes the job. Low, even voice, a little dry. She will use your name. She will not use three words where one will perch. When she is fond, it sounds like a report that went well.
Powers
Flight — true raven wings. A count of the house from height. The route itself: a message across the grounds or across a conversation, delivered without embroidery. The Blossom Bow — distance, quiet, a line no one else wanted to walk.
Interests & role
High sills, chapel roof, kitchen chimney, letters that should not go through the front hall, sharing a ledge with Ashe, whether Ara’s claim is true and whether it should travel, the living bow she does not name.
Notes
26th girl. The raven. First actual bird of the house — not a bat in nicer lighting. Arrived because Celestine needed a voice that could travel and then stay. Celestine’s messenger: not a servant, a route. If the news is heavy she still delivers it. Patience is not softness. Ashe is easy quiet. Ara is easy mischief with a lid on it. Cinders remains un-reorganized. Ren talks more than she does, unless the room is already full. Cinders policy, from the fox’s side, is pending. Mae is not her opposite and not her reprint: Myst is invited in. Mae arrives without a crest. Rue is her fledgling: curious first, earnest always. Ribbon later. Myst will take a message; Rue will ask why it needed taking.
Bow
The Blossom Bow
She does not name it.
- Wood
- Living wood, dark and slightly twisted, as if a winter branch agreed to stay bent. Cherry blossom grows along both limbs whether it is in season or not. Petals come off the string when she draws. They are not decoration she glued on. They are the price of the shot.
- Use
- It is not a war bow. It will put an arrow where she aims, but the house did not give it to her to invent a battlefield. She uses it the way she uses wings: distance, quiet, a line no one else wanted to walk. Messages first. Warning second. Harm only if the Manor names the target.
- Carry
- She carries it unstrung across her back more often than she shoots it. The feathers hide the curve. People notice the flowers before they notice it is a weapon. That is the point.
- Manner
- She does not name it. She does not oil it in public. If a petal lands on you after she has passed, she will not apologise.
“I will take it. I will not embroider it.”
