Cal
#66 · created orderMae’s adopted son · The quiet third chair · Londinius ghost
- Apparent age
- 18–20
- Family
- Adopted of Mae. Chosen, not born. James is blood and voice. Cal is the chair that does not speak unless the room needs a shot or a silence. Matthew and Ari keep the house; Mae keeps the file; Cal keeps the capital from noticing either.
Morning routine
Already gone, or already back. Checks the light the way Mae does. Does not fill the room. If she says Cal, eat, he eats. Then the gaps again.
Appearance
Black hair a little longer than Mae’s vanishing cut — past the ears, toward the collar, not styled for attention. Dark observant eyes. Lean, forgettable handsome. High collar, dark cloth, a coat that does not ring. Discreet holster at the ribs. Moves like someone who has already left.
Personality
Quiet. Focused. Few words. Tailed Mae well enough that she treated him as a professional before she treated him as a child. Kind in the same stern register she uses: no speech, a plate put down, a door held. Does not owe the pile a debrief. Does not fill air James can use.
Powers
Firearms and watching. Spying as a habit, not a costume. The missing past is an asset: the capital cannot blackmail a beginning it already deleted. Suited to keeping tabs on Londinius because Londinius failed to own him first. Third chair in Mae’s agency when the job needs three. Street name is whatever the street requires.
Interests & role
The gaps. The capital that did not keep him. At home she only has to say Cal, eat. Not a badge. Not Gareth’s yard. The file that learned to walk.
Notes
Sixty-sixth. Paper trail gone. Lives in the gaps. Mae’s shadow, not her reprint. James talks the room; Cal does not have to. Returns when the job is down. Londinius: he followed her cleanly. She watched him back long enough to risk the encounter, then took him to a hideout and spoke in private. Abandoned. The paper that would have explained it was already gone. She raised him anyway. Two sons — one born to the craft, one found by it. Kitchen light. Nell files it. Nova nods like a lock just clicked. Not Academy. Not kitchen roster. Not Court. At home: Cal, eat.
“Not made to be remembered.”
