Morning routine
Already in the shop light. Checks the racks the way her mother flutters the tall building. Dye if a colour has faded. Window stool if Mari can pretend it is for the light. Hold still is for other people.
Appearance
Honey-brown roots, then the loudest hair in the house: teal, coral, gold, magenta, violet, orange — remnant dyes treated like a sample book, redone when a colour fades. Soft blue eyes. Face still. Small rainbow butterfly wings, folded more often than shown. Work clothes on purpose: cream blouse, brown vest with one butterfly panel, knee-length skirt over leggings or machine pants, pins in the pockets, boots she can kneel in. Colour lives in the hair. The outfit does the job.
Personality
Quiet, focused, exact. Talks to cloth more than to crowds. Will rearrange a sleeve mid-sentence and not apologise, because the sleeve was lying. Patient listener. Kind, not timid. Lets people assume the hair means noise, then says “hold still.” Gets on with Trix because they do not compete — chorus and needle, same bench, different work.
